Why Upper House Hong Kong is our pick for a boutique stay
Upper House has 117 rooms, including 21 suites, and the smallest measures 68 m². The Maxi Bar is free in every room, and the house runs its own restaurant and bars on level 49, a café on level 6 and a 10-seat chef's table for guest chefs. It holds 2 Michelin Keys and is No. 8 in The World's 50 Best Hotels 2026.
Its limit for a boutique stay: the 117 rooms fill floors 38 to 49 of a tower above the Pacific Place mall, shared with the JW Marriott, and arrival is on level 4. There is no pool and no spa.
What you gain and lose in a smaller hotel
What you gain is scale: fewer guests share the bar and the breakfast room, and at Upper House the smallest room still measures 68 m². What you give up is choice. Upper House has one restaurant, a chef's table, a café and two bars, and The Hari two restaurants and two bars, where Rosewood, with 413 rooms, lists eight restaurants. Mandarin Oriental The Landmark is the exception: in 109 rooms it keeps Amber and Sushi Shikon, at three Michelin stars each, and Kappo Rin, at one.
The pool and the spa are what you lose most often. Upper House and The Hari have neither, K11 ARTUS has a 25 m outdoor pool but no spa, and The Landmark's spa reopens in phases until winter 2026. Among the seven hotels of this page, The Peninsula, with 300 rooms, publishes the most treatment rooms, 14 in a Forbes Five-Star spa, and has an 18 m indoor pool.
