Upper House Hong Kong

7.2 out of 10

Upper House Hong Kong has 117 rooms, the smallest of 68 m², all at least 38 floors up above Pacific Place, a complimentary Maxi Bar in each, and Admiralty station, where four MTR lines meet, directly beneath the building. It is the hotel we would book for a business trip or a short city stay, alone or as a couple, when the room is where you spend your time and Central is three minutes away by MTR. For a pool, a spa or a Michelin-starred dinner without leaving the building, book Rosewood, the Four Seasons or The Peninsula instead.

Book it if
you want an entry room of 68 m², a house of only 117 rooms, and four MTR lines under the building, three minutes from Central
Look elsewhere if
a pool, a spa or a Michelin-starred restaurant in the building is part of the plan, or you want a club lounge

What is Upper House Hong Kong?

Upper House Hong Kong is the Swire Hotels house that opened in Admiralty in October 2009 as The Upper House. On 15 October 2025 Swire Hotels brought its houses in Hong Kong, Chengdu and Shanghai under a single brand named after this one, Upper House, and the Hong Kong house became Upper House Hong Kong. The address is the same: Pacific Place, 88 Queensway.

The hotel rises above the Pacific Place mall, in the tower that also holds the JW Marriott, and was converted from The Atrium serviced apartments. André Fu designed the conversion and the interiors, and Thomas Heatherwick's Stone Curtains façade frames the entrance. The Michelin Guide gave it 2 Keys in its first Hong Kong selection in 2025 and again in 2026, Forbes Travel Guide rates it Four-Star for 2026, and The World's 50 Best Hotels has placed it in its top 10 every year from 2023 to 2026: No. 4, No. 5, No. 10, then No. 8 in 2026.

What are the rooms like?

The 117 rooms, including 21 suites, are all at least 38 floors up. The entry room, Studio 70, measures 68 m² (730 sq ft), and Swire Hotels calls its rooms the largest in Hong Kong; entry rooms measure 53 m² at Rosewood and 39 m² at the Four Seasons. Above it come Studio 80 (78 m²), the Upper Suite (114 m²) and two rooms of 182 m²: the two-bedroom Penthouse, over Victoria Harbour, and the one-bedroom André Fu Suite, added in 2021, which has its own spa treatment space.

Views depend on the category. Studio 70 rooms face the mountain or the harbour, Studio 80 rooms the city and the mountain, so a harbour view is not a given at entry level: ask for it when you book. Every room has a complimentary Maxi Bar and unlimited filtered water, a Studio 70 sleeps two adults and one child, and adjoining rooms and babysitting are available on request. For longer stays, the hotel also rents the Pacific Place Apartments, with one to three bedrooms.

Where do you eat and drink?

Salisterra, on Level 49, is the main restaurant: Mediterranean cooking, with Ricardo Chaneton of MONO as culinary advisor, from breakfast at 06:30 to dinner until 22:30, with afternoon tea from 15:00 to 17:00 and a harbour-view bar open until 01:00. It replaced Café Gray Deluxe, which closed at the end of 2020, in a room designed by André Fu. Inside its private dining area, the Chef's Room is a ten-seat chef's table for guest-chef collaborations.

The Green Room, also on Level 49, is the cocktail lounge, open from 06:30 to 01:00, with DJ nights on Fridays. The Tea Room, on Level 6 with The Lawn, serves coffee and light bites by day. None of these venues is in the Michelin Guide Hong Kong & Macau 2026; for a starred dinner, Island Shangri-La, in the same Pacific Place complex, has two one-star restaurants, Summer Palace and Restaurant Petrus.

Is there a pool or a spa?

No. Upper House Hong Kong has no pool and no spa with treatment rooms; of the 12 hotels in our Hong Kong guide, only Upper House and The Hari have no pool. Treatments are given in the room, and the hotel offers six wellness residencies with Human Arc, And Sculpt, Chain's, May Nogoy, Stone & Star and UP!health. The gym is open 24 hours, with Technogym equipment and a personal trainer on request, and Forbes Travel Guide notes free yoga sessions on The Lawn on weekend evenings.

If a pool is a condition, the closest alternative is Island Shangri-La, in the same Pacific Place complex, with a 28.5 m outdoor pool on Level 8 and the YUN WELLNESS spa. Across the harbour, Rosewood has a 25 m outdoor infinity pool and the Asaya Spa by Guerlain.

Location and getting there

The house rises above Pacific Place, the mall and office complex at 88 Queensway in Admiralty, the eastern extension of the central business district, with Hong Kong Park beside the building. Admiralty station, where the Island, Tsuen Wan, South Island and East Rail lines meet, is directly beneath the mall (Exit F), and Pacific Place gives journey times of about 3 minutes to Central, 5 to Tsim Sha Tsui and 6 to Causeway Bay. The building is also connected to the tram.

Hong Kong International Airport is 26 km away in a straight line, about 35 minutes by MTR according to Pacific Place; Forbes Travel Guide gives 28 to 45 minutes. From the airport, the Airport Express reaches Hong Kong Station in about 24 minutes, and shuttle bus H1 runs from there to Pacific Place between 06:20 and 23:10; a red taxi takes about 40 minutes, and the hotel offers car transfers. Upper House shares a taxi stand with the Conrad, Island Shangri-La and the JW Marriott, and the hotel can book a car for an early flight.

Before you book
