Why Upper House Hong Kong is our pick for couples
Upper House has 117 rooms, few for a hotel of this level, and the smallest studio measures 68 m². The two-bedroom Penthouse, 182 m², overlooks Victoria Harbour, and the André Fu Suite, of the same size, has its own treatment space. The Green Room on level 49 serves cocktails until 01:00, with a DJ on Friday nights, and the Salisterra bar on the same floor looks over the harbour.
Its limit for a couple: there is no pool and no spa, and treatments are given in the room, while Rosewood, The Peninsula and Four Seasons have both. None of the restaurants holds a Michelin star. The Studio 70 comes with a harbour or a mountain view and the larger Studio 80 with city and mountain views: for the harbour, ask for it on a Studio 70 or book the Penthouse.
Which rooms look at the harbour?
From Kowloon, the view is the Hong Kong Island skyline. The Ritz-Carlton says every room looks over the harbour and the city, from floors 102 to 118. At Rosewood, about 80% of the rooms have harbour and city views, and the Club Grand Harbour Balcony Room adds an 11 m² balcony. Regent angles most of its rooms towards the harbour, but its entry Classic Room is sold without the view; the Classic Harbourview Room, from 38 m², also exists with a Moongate Bath. At The Peninsula, the harbour views are in the 1994 tower, from the Grand Deluxe Harbour View Rooms on floors 17 to 27, while the heritage-wing Courtyard rooms face the forecourt.
On the island, Four Seasons, Island Shangri-La and Mandarin Oriental split their rooms between harbour views and city or Peak views: book the category by its name. Mandarin Oriental The Landmark has no harbour-view category, and The Murray looks over Hong Kong Park and the city.
Suites, spas and bars for a special night
For a suite with water, Regent's Presidential Suite has a private infinity pool in 650 m². The Hari's three rooftop suites have private terraces, and the L600 rooms of Mandarin Oriental The Landmark have a curved, glass-walled bathroom with a seven-foot round bathtub. For a treatment side by side, The Mandarin Spa, The Ritz-Carlton Spa and YUN WELLNESS at Island Shangri-La each have two rooms for couples, and Wellness at The Murray has two couple suites, each with a private steam room or sauna.
For a drink after dinner, OZONE is on the 118th floor of The Ritz-Carlton, and Felix, at the top of The Peninsula, was designed by Philippe Starck. The Lobster Bar at Island Shangri-La has live jazz, and DarkSide at Rosewood pairs jazz with aged spirits. Popinjays, on the roof of The Murray, has a Dom Pérignon champagne bar, and BLANC DE NOIRS at The Landmark is a new champagne bar.
