In short
- Admiralty is the eastern end of Hong Kong Island's business district, between Central and Wan Chai; its MTR station is the interchange of the Island, Tsuen Wan, South Island and East Rail lines, with Central one stop away.
- Pacific Place, above the station, includes Upper House Hong Kong, Island Shangri-La and JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong; four luxury hotels in Central are 0.7 to 1.4 km away in a straight line.
- It suits business trips, a first visit built on the MTR, and families who want Hong Kong Park next door; for bars, Wan Chai is one stop east and Lan Kwai Fong 1.2 km west, and the view of the Island skyline is from Kowloon.
For a business trip or a first visit that runs on the MTR, yes. Admiralty is the eastern end of Hong Kong Island's business district, with Central to the west, Wan Chai to the east and Victoria Harbour to the north. Its station is the interchange of four MTR lines, Central is one stop away, and two hotels of our guide stand above it in Pacific Place: Upper House Hong Kong, our pick in Hong Kong, and Island Shangri-La. For bars on the doorstep or the classic view of the Island skyline, stay in Central, Wan Chai or Kowloon instead.
Where Admiralty is
Admiralty is adjacent to Central but separate from it. It is not an official place name and counts as part of Central, which is why Island Shangri-La gives its address as Pacific Place, Supreme Court Road, Central. Its buildings are mostly offices, government buildings, malls and hotels. The Central Government Complex, in use since 2011, faces the harbour and holds the Chief Executive's office and the Legislative Council Complex.
Three parks are close: Hong Kong Park, 8 hectares, opened in 1991; Tamar Park; and Harcourt Garden. Most buildings are linked by a network of footbridges that runs on into the western part of Central.
Admiralty station and Pacific Place
Admiralty station is the interchange of four lines:
- the Island line, with Central one stop west and Wan Chai one stop east;
- the Tsuen Wan line, which crosses the harbour to Tsim Sha Tsui, the next stop;
- the South Island line, open since 28 December 2016, with Ocean Park the next stop;
- the East Rail line, which has started at Admiralty since 15 May 2022 and runs via Exhibition Centre to Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau, both boundary crossing points into Shenzhen.
Exit F leads through a walkway to Pacific Place, the complex of shops, hotels and offices above the station. Pacific Place gives MTR journey times of 3 minutes to Central and 6 minutes to Causeway Bay, with trains from 6am to 1am, and counts bus stops for more than 50 routes outside. Trams run along Queensway, and the station has a taxi stand at Exit C2.
The Airport Express does not stop at Admiralty. It leaves from Hong Kong station, under the International Finance Centre in Central, and reaches the airport in as little as 24 minutes. Pacific Place puts the airport about 35 minutes from Admiralty by MTR.
What is within reach

Hotels in Admiralty, and next door in Central
Two of the 12 hotels in our guide are in Admiralty, both in Pacific Place.
Upper House Hong Kong, our pick, has 117 rooms above Pacific Place, starting with the 68 m² Studio 70, the largest entry room in our guide. It holds two Michelin Keys for 2026 and is No. 8 in The World's 50 Best Hotels 2026. Its limits: no pool and no spa, only treatments in the room, and no club lounge. It is also our pick in the best luxury hotels in Hong Kong for business travel, a ranking that gives 35% of its weight to metro and airport access.
Island Shangri-La, 200 m away in Two Pacific Place, has 544 rooms by its own count, from 41 m², a 28.5 m outdoor pool on Level 8 and the YUN WELLNESS spa with ten treatment rooms. Summer Palace and Restaurant Petrus each hold one Michelin star in 2026; the hotel has no Michelin Key this year. Family-themed rooms are on Level 45.
JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong and Conrad Hong Kong, not in our guide, are in the same complex and share its taxi stand with Upper House and Island Shangri-La, according to Pacific Place. Upper House occupies floors 38 to 49 of the same tower, One Pacific Place.
Central's luxury hotels are a short trip west:
- The Murray, 0.7 km: the 1969 Murray Building, once government offices, converted in 2018; facing Hong Kong Park next to the Peak Tram; one Michelin Key; Central station about 10 minutes on foot.
- Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, 0.9 km: open since 1963, one Key; its rooms reopened on 1 October 2026 after a summer recess, with renovation due to finish in the last quarter of 2026.
- Mandarin Oriental The Landmark, 1.0 km: 109 rooms and two Keys, with Amber and Sushi Shikon, three Michelin stars each.
- Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, 1.4 km: in the International Finance Centre, linked to Hong Kong station and the Airport Express; two Keys and four pools.
Who Admiralty suits
- Business travellers. The Convention and Exhibition Centre is 1 km away, or one stop on the East Rail line to Exhibition Centre, and the same line runs on to the Shenzhen boundary without a change.
- A first visit on public transport. Four lines from one station, Central in 3 minutes, Tsim Sha Tsui one stop away, and the tram on Queensway.
- Families. Hong Kong Park is next door, and Ocean Park station is one stop away on the South Island line. Island Shangri-La has an outdoor pool and family rooms; Upper House runs a Children's Residency playroom at Pacific Place Apartments.
Who should stay elsewhere
- Nightlife first. The bars are elsewhere: in Lan Kwai Fong, Central's bar and restaurant quarter, 1.2 km from Upper House, and in Wan Chai, known for its nightlife, one stop east. The Hari, the Wan Chai hotel in our guide, is on Lockhart Road.
- The Island skyline from your bed. Kowloon hotels face Hong Kong Island across the harbour: about 80% of the rooms at Rosewood Hong Kong look at the harbour and the Island skyline, and most rooms at Regent Hong Kong are angled the same way. From Admiralty, harbour-view rooms look north to Kowloon. Our Upper House vs Rosewood comparison weighs the two sides of the harbour.
- The airport train at the door. The Airport Express stops in Central, at Hong Kong station below Four Seasons, and at Kowloon station, which serves The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong.
